Solstice virusrising.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=tryouts&action=display&thread=224Solstice walked along the streets through the alleyways. He slowly came to a stop after smelling the scent of dogs near a sewer grate. The smell of dogs was very strong above the grate. He tilted his head a little and decided to check things out even though it probably wasn't his business. Solstice was a bit curious even though he has always been a cautious dog. This time something had really caught his attention, and now he wanted to know what it was. He started off at a slow trot letting his tail flow gently behind him. His paws carried him forward with long strides. When the male finally came up to the enterance, he stopped and sniffed around. He noticed the scent of two other dogs that was very recent. Hmm... wonder if I will run into anyone? he thought to himself as he lifted his head to stand with the confidence that was held in a Malinois. He started foward with cautious steps even though his body showed his confidence. He was completely alert not knowing what he would come up on. His dark brown eyes took in everything that was around him as he took long, slow steps through the sewers. He heard the movement of water around his paws and tried his best not to make too much noise. Solstice came to a quick stop when he noticed the two dogs in front of him. He backed up a few steps not wanting to be too close if any of them were to attack. He cocked his head and stood there looking a mix of cautious, untrusting and aggressive, though he was hardly showing much aggression at all. He tended to be a very gentle dog unless he needed to be aggrssive.

"I may," Shadow simply answered, steady but ready for whatever the intruders would try to do. If the other dog was telling the truth, his mate wouldn't be much of the danger. "You'd better come to stand under the light for now, don't forget you! are the stranger in these tunnels," he added, his voice still sounding somewhat odd in the tunnel, fearless but hinted with some sadness. He then waited for the couple to decide what they'd do, ready to retreat or to jump at them if it was needed. He wouldn't kill an expectant female without reason, but if these two were letting him no choice...
Fiona kept running after Jedi, now heavily panting and with paws aching. A sudden ring of voice startled her, and she bumped into the male's back as he stopped steadily, letting a little yelp coming from her throat. Her eyes widened in fear, and she got her closer to the male, at the point her fur was slightly bristling against the male's. She wanted so much to sit down, to lie, to finally be able to rest at least for a bit... Her heavier than ever belly was impeding her movement, and even her breathing for now. It wasn't possible however, not there with the odd voice's male before us. She let Jedi deciding what would be better for them, silently hoping they could at least rest before leaving again, if that what he'd choose.
(Kind of crappy post x.x even more after a so long time. Sorry about that, i got really busy for quite a while :S )

Jedi lifted his head from where he'd dropped it in preparation close to the water. At the offer of help, he looked back to Fiona. The female was trembling visibly and obviously tired. He knew he couldn't push her much farther or risk her collapsing from exhaustion or even being stressed into having her pups right here in the mucky, septic waters. As he knew something had to give in this stalemate, Jedi stepped forward and into the light filtering through a grate above.
In the odd light from above, the mangled wound on his shoulder became apparent. While wounded dogs weren't in short supply, Jedi knew what it would look like. He would look like one infected with this sickness. But he had no way to know if he were or not until he felt some madness start to take hold. Unsure of how long it took for signs to show, Jedi had to believe he was safe to be around now. At the very least, he vowed to get the pregnant dog to safety. Whether that was with him or without him mattered not, so long as it happened.
He'd been about to address the other dog when quiet sounds of another's entry into the sewers dragged his attention. With hackles bristling, Jedi turned, leaving his back exposed to the borzoi. As he seemed without illness and one worthy of trust, the wolfdog hedged his bets. Nudging Fiona towards him, he pinned the dog with a stern look.
"Please, take her. Keep her safe. I'll take care of whoever else has joined us and catch up." By the way his amber eyes had darkened, it was clear what he intended should this other intruder turn out to mean ill harm to them.
With haste, Jedi splashed down the tunnels until he came face to face with the Malinois. His eyes searched for hint of madness, but found none. "Are you ill or seeking refuge, too?" he asked, going with instinct and believing the male was relatively safe. If anything, he was the one all the dogs should be concerned about. Infected dogs had attacked him, after all, and the wounds were still plain to see.

Solstice looked up when he heard someone coming towards him. He looked at the dog before him before taking a step back. A little surprised that the dog had confronted him so quickly.
"I'm looking for a safe place to stay. I just noticed the scent of dogs while I was walking and I just followed it. It led me here. I don't mean any harm to anyone," Solstice spoke up answering the dogs question.
He looked around the sewers for once not feeling the confidence that he typically had. Upon looking back at the dog he felt cautious around him though he didn't feel any particular need to run at the moment. He wondered from here if he should introduce himself or wait for the other dog to make the next move.
After a few more seconds of deliberation, he decided that he would be better off trying to seem friendly compared to waiting and seeming unfriendly. He tried speaking a few times but he didn't know where to start. He stopped trying so as not to look like a fish out of water. He looked down feeling a little foolish now, but why would he give up now? He couldn't go back home now, he needed a place to stay.
Gaining up his courage he looked back up at the other dog, "I'm Solstice. I'm sorry if I'm intruding, I can leave if you don't want me here."
After getting the words out, he felt better. He still felt nervous but he wasn't showing any signs of aggression towards the other dog. He felt a little of his confidence return; standing a little taller, as he stood there waiting for a verdict to be handed down. His tail swished back and forth a little anxiously, though not very much.

Shadow's ears perked at the newcomer's voice. What was that, a dog's meeting? He scowled. At least, from what he could tell, none of these three dogs was infected. Although the wolf dog's was kind of suspicious, in the borzoi's opinion. Shadow didn't seem to ease much. Infected or not, others were still a potential threat to the sewer's pack. He took a look at the third dog, a well built german shepherd mix, before reporting his attention towards the female. The doberman was in poor condition, her ribs showing. But more important, no-one would -could even- miss the bulge right behind her ribs. She was obviously expecting pups anytime soon now, and judging by her trembling and exhaustion, it was clear she couldn't really go any further.
"The female and you can come, for now," he said to the doberman and the german shepherd mix who told his name was Solstice, easing a little bit, his raspy voice echoing oddly again in the tunnel. He then turned his head towards the wolf dog, glancing at him. "Where does that wound come from?" he asked him, clearly looking at the dog's shoulder.
Fiona, for her part, was growing more and more uncomfortable at the neighbor of three male dogs, and she came even closer to Jedi, if it was even possible. Only her will was preventing her to lie down in the mucky waters of the sewer, but even that was slowly eroding, and she knew she couldn't stand up much longer. The dog who came after them presented himself as Solstice. He didn't seem to be like the dogs Fiona had known in the past, but she had had too many bad experiences to be confident around them. Only Jedi had cared about me and been gentle she thought.
Finally, the light grey lanky dog before them spoke again, telling Solstice and her could come. Her eyes widened with anxiety. "A-and Jedi?" she asked, unsure and wary. He had protected her down in the streets, found her something to eat when she was hungry... She didn't want to leave him, neither she was confident enough for that. Her thoughts were quickly interrupted by a sudden jolt in her distended belly, making her gasp and mildly yelp from the suddenness of it. Her pups had been quiet for a while now, but surely they could feel their mother's exhaustion.

Here he was in strange lands, and already Jedi was asserting himself as a leader. For someone who'd been on his own for so long, one would think the wolf dog would be more likely to take a backseat and let someone else do the thinking for once. But that was exactly why he refused! Too long had he been the one in charge. Relinquishing decisions, even those of a minor caliber, was quite a bit too sacrifice.
Jedi regarded the dog, certain now he was no diseased mongrel. Of all the ones he'd met, none had really had their head on straight. "It would be safer for you to stay," the male conceded, trying to back off some. His protective instincts were flaring, though the female wasn't really his mate.
When the Borzoi addressed them all, Jedi didn't miss the wording and how he hadn't been invited. He had no doubt his wounds had been noticed. Good. At least he uses his brains. Were he in the same position as the Russian Wolfhound, he wouldn't trust him either. Actually, he'd probably even go so far as to attack outright. Social skills weren't really his strong suit.
Fiona's voice was threaded through with the exhaustion that showed clearly in her trembling limbs as well as the anxiety of the rough day. Jedi knew he could have been kinder. Gentler. But time was of the essence and they hadn't had much to waste, so kindness had been bumped down below haste. He wanted to assure her that things were fine. If they had to part ways here, it was for the best. And yet, he had a duty to fulfill and the wolfdog intended to see it through. At least until madness took hold or he learned there was none to be found.
It had been quite a while, and still he felt no snickers of laughter in his mind that no one else would hear. No scent of illness. All he could sense was weariness on his part and the stale scent of dried blood in his fur. Maybe the sickness wouldn't take hold after all.
As what had happened was crystal clear, Jedi made no effort to hide it as he addressed the dog. "I was attacked by diseased mongrels." He said it with such calmness, that one would assume he was discussing something as insignificant as which garbage can had provided breakfast.
His gaze was bold, for he would drop it for no dog. Any further stare down was broken at the Rottweiler's yelp of pain. Brushing past the Borzoi who'd been bred to hunt down his wild kind, Jedi moved fearlessly and with purpose. He touched his muzzle softly to her own before turning back to the two males.
"I think they're coming."

At the words of the Borzoi, Solstice let out a short sigh of relief. He nodded at the words of the dog in front of him, knowing that he was right. He had been walking the streets for days and had now found a safe place, though he still felt nervous. He cautiously took a few steps forward and was finally able to get a better look at the other two dogs. He could tell the female was pregnant, he was at least certain of that, though he couldn't tell much more than that.
Solstice looked around and took a quick look at the entrance of the sewer. He turned back around, waiting for the next move to be made. His tail was still gently swishing back and forth anxiously. He pinned his ears back against his head, though it was a more relaxed motion on his part. He let his body start to relax where he stood, his muscles slowly relaxing.
Though Solstice still felt nervous, cautious, and anxious; he tried his best to calm himself down mentally. He let his stance show no sign of anything other than the kind and calm demeanor that he normally exhibited around others. He did his best to try not to seem at unease, so that he wouldn't make the situation even more strained than it was. The most movement he made that did show his unease was his tail as it swished around behind him in small back and forth movements.
